What does English Teacher do?

On a day-to-day basis, an English teacher typically performs a range of tasks that revolve around teaching and language instruction. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  1. Planning and delivering lessons: Developing lesson plans and instructional materials for various topics, such as grammar, literature, writing, and communication skills. This includes creating engaging activities and tasks for students to practice and improve their English language proficiency.

  2. Teaching and facilitating learning: Conducting classroom sessions, guiding students through lessons, and delivering instruction through lectures, discussions, and multimedia presentations. The teacher helps students understand and apply concepts, and may also provide individual or group assistance as needed.

  3. Assessing student progress: Evaluating student performance through assignments, quizzes, tests, and exams. Teachers also provide constructive feedback on student work, monitor progress, and identify areas for improvement. They may also collaborate with colleagues to develop and administer standardized assessments.

  4. Grading and record-keeping: Assessing and grading student papers, exams, and other assignments in a timely manner. Maintaining accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant information required by the school administration and parents.

  5. Providing support and guidance: Supporting students on academic and personal levels. English teachers often act as mentors, providing guidance on reading choices, research projects, and career paths. They may also address concerns or challenges students face and help them develop problem-solving skills.

  6. Collaborating with colleagues: Participating in faculty meetings, grade-level or subject-specific team meetings, and professional development activities. Engaging in ongoing collaboration with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and discuss student progress.

  7. Communicating with parents: Regularly communicating with parents/guardians about student progress, behavior, and any concerns. This includes parent-teacher conferences, progress reports, and responding to inquiries or requests.
