As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, your day-to-day activities may include:
Assisting in assessments: You will help gather information about a client's physical, emotional, and functional abilities through interviews, observations, and tests.
Implementing treatment plans: Working under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist, you will carry out therapy interventions and exercises designed to improve clients' functional abilities and independence.
Monitoring and documenting progress: You will regularly observe and record clients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed. This includes measuring and documenting vital signs, tracking improvements in range of motion, and noting changes in clients' behavior or abilities.
Providing assistance with daily activities: You will help clients with activities like dressing, bathing, eating, and grooming, focusing on techniques to enhance their physical and mental capabilities.
Assisting with adaptive equipment: Occupational Therapist Assistants make recommendations for and assist clients with using adaptive equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, or dressing aids, to support independence and improve functionality.
Educating clients and caregivers: You play a role in educating clients and their families on various techniques and strategies to improve functioning, as well as providing instruction on how to use adaptive equipment.
Collaborating with the therapy team: You will work closely with Occupational Therapists and other healthcare professionals to update treatment plans, discuss progress, and ensure coordinated care.
Maintaining equipment and supplies: You will be responsible for organizing and maintaining equipment, supplies, and treatment areas, ensuring they are clean and accessible.
Overall, your role as an Occupational Therapist Assistant involves providing hands-on support and implementing therapy interventions to help clients regain or develop skills needed for daily living and independence.
